18th May 2025 is our major Steam Rally and we encourage everyone to come along and join in.

General Meetings are held monthly at 7:30pm on the last fiday of each month at Gisborne.


The venue is the Gisborne Community Centre 8A Hamilton St Gisborne - near the Library.


Visitors and prospective members are always welcome. The meetings typically run for 90 minutes.

The Society is an incorporated body, and an entirely voluntary and non-profit organisation.

Members of the Society are a diverse group of enthusiasts, interested in vintage machinery, restoring and displaying historic oil and steam equipment, engines, farm machinery, tractors, cars and trucks, railways large and small, models, history of engineering and technology, radio transmission.

Some of the items we own and display include:
  • Ruston-Hornsby portable steam engine, ex Bullengarook sawmill.
  • Steam sugar cane locomotive, by Perry Engineering, Adelaide, 2 foot gauge.
  • Fowler steam roller, ex Essendon Council.
  • A huge model train layout .

Annual Steam Rally

18th May 2025 - 9:30am to 3pm

Lots of displays, rides, Tractor pull, stalls and catering all onsite.

Annual Rally at the Steam Park

May 2025.

The Rally is the major fundraising event for the year and takes place in May to allow the Society to fire up its Steam driven machinery as part of the big day.
Train Rides, model train displays and other activities for the kids.

The day highlights all of our own machinery and exhibits as well as stationery engines and other related machinery from other clubs in Victoria.

Additionall there is a big Tractor Pull event that runs for most of the day as well as exhibitors and stalls selling items of enless variety.

Entry Fees are $15 per adult with Children Free. Classic Vehicles and drivers are free with adult passengers $10 each.
EFTPOS is available at the gates. Please note not all sales vendors may accept EFTPOS.

Opportunities exist for the following

  • General Sales stalls - all types of items welcome
  • Community groups
Additionally the Gisborne Vintage Machinery Society would welcome expressions of interest from commercial sponsors willing to participate on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • On the first Sunday of every month from September to June.
    There is also the major Steam Rally in May each year.

  • Membership is open to families and individuals. Contact the Secretary for a membership form. Junior members are also welcome but require parental and / or guardian approvals and support.

  • Yes there are toilets at the park and these are open on Run and event days

  • The SteamPark is a public park in the local government area. As such dogs are permitted but must be 'on-leash' as there is valuable equipment on display as well as other members of the public.

  • On event days the Society runs a BBQ with sausages and drinks available for purchase.

  • The Steam Park is a public reserve and is open all year however the Society only operates Run days between September and June - the warmer months.
